Great interview,
Helen is a fantastic coach and never too busy to help any of her students with
any aspect of their game. She’s definitely one of the clubs biggest assetts.

Great interview.
Helen like everyone
else has already said is awesome to roll with and learn from. I’d urge anyone
in the area to go and train with both her, Darren and their guys. Nice to read
a little more of the history side of the story too

Great interview with
an inspirational grappler. I just wanted to reiterate the point Helen made
about the students at Combat Base Pontefract being friends, alot of gyms claim
this but I know of few gyms that have it as strongly as these guys and gals do.
An incredibly welcoming gym.

A fascinating insight
into an awesome coach and a great ambassador for her art/sport. If BJJ was
recognised as a mainstream sport maybe Helen (and Darren) would get the kind of
wider recognition and appreciation they deserve!!!

Helen is the most
technical bjj’er that I have rolled with. Not sure I agree with the bit about
the warm up though
Nice to see that she
is getting some of the recognition she deserves.

I had the privilege
to train with Helen and Darren for only about 6 months or so before I had to
move away through work…Rolling with Helen is a lesson in BJJ! I’m bigger and
much stronger than her but I ended up almost in a foetal position so I didn’t
give her an arm or neck to tap me out! She doesn’t stop moving and you can’t
hold her down! Her technique is spot on because it has to be…
I knew straight away
these were people I wanted to train with.
Great gym, great
atmosphere (‘Cagefighters’ need not apply!) and great learning!
I miss you guys!

Helen is such a good
instructor even the Combat Base grappling dummy is a high level purple belt. It
has tapped me twice – I kid you not… be afraid…be very afraid!

No! Don’t tell
everyone. Helen and Darren are ours!
Great atmosphere,
training, and coaching. Always helpful and patient.
A bit painful
watching a big lad try and muscle Helen though(but they rarely get anyware).
Keep going.

Great interview,
loved the spirit of technique over strength. As a guy I fully agree that we
need to think more about our game, than using strength. When I initially
started I used to go in like a bull, but now I’m using more technique than ever.
Thanks Helen, a great interview.
